Titus

Titus Andronicus is full of many tragic things seeming to be all thrown in to one play. Relying on my minimal expertise, as I read the play for the first time I noticed that it didn’t really seem like any other Shakespeare play that I had ever read before. Perhaps critics are more harsh in their reviews of Titus Andronicus because they picked up on the same things that I noticed. If this show where to be adapted I think that it could be fairly successful. It falls in line with much of the modern entrainment of today. The one thing that I think would be essential to a Titus adaptation would be a great writing staff. This was the main issue for me with the play, I just felt that something was missing in the writing. The story didn’t flow well from scene to scene and we didn’t get great character development which lead to a lack in emotional attachment to the characters that such a tragic play requires. For example I had a difficult time feeling sorry for any of the Andronicus family, not because I disliked them but because I didn’t feel like I really know them.

I find it interesting that you mentioned the character involvement and connection with the audience. I agree completely. Part of the reasons such violent things are accepted on todays TV shows is because the audience has a connection with the character that make it seem a little more allowed; however, in this play we started off with murder with out knowing anything about the characters. Great job.

    Ty,
I like how you mentioned that the play needed to expand on developing a character into which the audience could have a connection with. I agree that today we are entertained with violent shows because we get to know the characters and build a connection with them. I enjoyed your response.
